Margaret T. Hance Park Revitalization Project (2016-Present)
A GREAT PARK SETS THE STAGE FOR A VIBRANT DOWNTOWN. BUT FOR DECADES, MARGARET T.HANCE PARK WAS NOT LIVING UP TO ITS POTENTIAL AS A PUBLIC ASSETT.
Today, the city-owned property hosts a variety of activations and events, with a complete renewal on the horizon.
Description:
“Every great city has a great park,” as PCA Co-Chair Tim Sprague said.
As downtown moved beyond the Great Recession, a collection of board chairs individually recognized the jewel in plain sight. Beginning in late 2016, the formation of the Hance Park Fundraising Committee took form with a singular vision guiding the park’s eventual revitalization. Through that philosophy, PCA has championed fundraising, estimated to cost $100 million, from public and private sources.
A fundraising campaign led by PCA, the Margaret T. Hance Park Revitalization Project is a public-private partnership led by the Hance Park Partner Coalition, consisting of the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, Phoenix Community Alliance, and the Hance Park Conservancy.
The project will be completed over multiple phases. The initial phase of revitalization is well underway at the park, with the completion of the Fiesta Bowl PLAY in December 2020, a playground by the Fiesta Bowl organization (and PCA partner), and the construction of a Republic Services Garden, due to be completed in time for Super Bowl LVII in February 2023.
These reactivated spaces add to the eventual revitalization of the park, as one not only of amenity but as necessity for future generations of usage and enjoyment.
We are so grateful to join such a powerful organization making a true difference in the communities we serve.
