Heritage Square: PHOENIX PAST & PRESENT: AUTHOR TALK AND BOOK SIGNING

Thursday, January 30 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Those who love Phoenix and it’s history won’t want to miss this talk by the authors of Phoenix Past & Present. Hear about the planning and adventures involved with duplicating the original photographer’s vantage point–whether that meant standing in the middle of a downtown intersection or climbing to the top of a nearby building. See historic photos of well-known Phoenix landmarks like the Orpheum Theatre, Rosson House, Hotel San Carlos, and Tovrea Castle and discover hidden gems and unknown perspectives.

Books will be on sale following the program. Meet the authors and get your copy signed! Open Phoenix Past & Present and you’ll find 84 pairs of side-by-side images. Each page documents a specific location and includes a brief narrative providing historical background and the location of every photograph.

Free and open to the public. Discounted parking in the Heritage Garage with validation.

The talk will be held in the Lath House Classroom, located upstairs in the wooden open air structure behind the Rosson House.

Paul Scharbach, a second-generation Phoenix native, has worked as a professional photographer for over 30 years on commercial, stock and book projects. Passionate about local history, he was the photographer and image researcher for the 2005 book Phoenix Then and Now. Historic preservationist John Jacquemart is proud to be an Arizona native. The ASU graduate has maintained a lifelong interest in Arizona history and previously co-authored two books, Tovrea Castle, and Historic Heritage Square.
